Lessons

We currently do lessons Tuesday through Saturday. Sessions can be scheduled anytime during business hours. Generally students come once a week. Rates are $30 per half hour and $55 per hour(or two half hours per family). We teach almost any style and we're confident that any level student can learn something new from our program.

Below is a list of our current teachers and their specialties. All of our instructors are proficient in the reading, writing, and teaching of classic musical notation.

Eugene Reinert

Eugene is the head of the teaching department and part owner of Guru Guitars.  He has been teaching fulltime since 2003.  He teaches most styles of guitar with a focus on Blues and Jazz. Gene specializes in helping intermediate students find their voice on the guitar, including building improvisational skills and understanding tone. You can expect a well rounded approach, including technique exercises, rhythm studies and music theory.   Eugene studied with Pete Thoennes (Albert Collins' guitarist) before taking over for him in 2003.

Merritt Partridge

Merritt is a highly skilled musician, teacher, recording engineer and producer. Merritt's playing and production work can be heard on many releases ranging from local to international artists. He was awarded a Gold record for his engineering work on Big Pun's Yea Baby album and has worked with a broad range of artists as diverse as Clay Aiken, Corrosion of Conformity and southern rock legend Tommy Redd.  Currently he serves as the Director of Music Education at 2112 School of Musical Arts and performs with one of NC's most in demand party and event bands, Rubberband.  On top of all of this, he has taught music for over 20 years professionally. When you have a question about anything relating to music, take a lesson with Merritt. We are so thankful to have him as part of our team.

Doug Sours

Doug is a well rounded, amazing guitar player. He teaches all styles while specializing in classic jazz, blues and bluegrass.  He studied music at Ohio State Univerisity and worked one on one with many of the instructors while he was there.  He teaches all levels of student and is willing to adapt to each students needs, depending on thier background and musical interests.  Doug  also teaches banjo!

Chris Portwood

Chris has been playing guitar for 20 years. He is an experienced teacher specializing in improvisational concepts and techniques. He has a BA in Music Composition and Theory, and did graduate level work in composition at IRCAM.
